Thank you. I really never wanted to get into religion or politics but this time i will. My family was never involved directly in the NPA. They were a big part of the CPP but never condoned the violence that the NPA used. Joma Sison is from a relatively different school of communism. And to my knowledge the NPA taxes big businesses, and hacienda owners, not farmers. They fight for the farmers. The reason why farmers don't own their own land is because of the shoddy agrarian reform program of the government and the usurious rates that landowners charge the farmers.

Reality, my friend, is the rationalization of abstract concepts that exsit in the world because of one thing or another. You cannot tell me what is real or not, because it is all based on the interplay of perception, experience and even culture.

Sociologists go even further and say that reality is defined by language (I forgot the name of the theory). Not to say that reality is a simple question of semantics, but they pose a very valid theory. They say that for something to be real it must be in the language of the people. For example "privacy." There is no Filipino word for "privacy" because back in the day, we had no notion of it. We lived in barios where everybody new everybody, and the whole village was in-effect the extended family. Same thing with the Native Americans. They were called thieves by the Westerners that colonized them because the former simply took the belongings of the latter without permission. And it was because they had no word, nor concept of private property.

But I digress. Reality, ultimately is different from person to person. We have all been raised differently with different experiences that roughly shape our perception and therefore what is real to us. Take a child locked in a cellar for 7 years as an example. To her, that 4x6 room was the world. She had no concept of the objects beyond the four walls of her existence. Yes she was fed by the very parents that locked her up so there was a certain degree of interaction with the outside. When she was discovered however, she had absolutely no communication skills. She didn't talk and couldn't make anything out of this whole new world that she found behind the cellar door.

And in the end, nothing is real. Cue the matrix!

I'm not directly doing anything. All i can do is give everything to make Saab happy, and that's the thought i wake up to everyday-- how can i top off yesterday. Sometimes i fail, sometimes i don't, but i'll keep on doing it because i love her. in terms of the many things i have given up, its more for myself. proof to myself that i can live without them, because, as the Beatles would put it, "all you need is love." i know how to play the piano, and guitar. But again i reiterate, i am not good at all. I can play like two songs on the piano. Same with singing. Anyone can sing, but i'm not very good at it either. hhaha! i played it on the ipod that was playing at the party. actually i played my ipod, and first it was modest mouse, then arctic monkeys, then i moved to the strokes. i sat down at their table and saab was at one end, i was about two seats to her left, and i saw her singing it. Given the fact that when i play my ipod people get violent because i really don't have "mainstream" songs that much, i was very surprised to hear Saab sing to last nite. I love how the phrase "no comment" can carry so much meaning. But in any case, i just wanna say that I, personally, do not take anything away from Mikko. He's actually a friend of mine and i know that part of what i love about saab so much is because of what she went through in the past, and that includes everything. I did. Like being anything, there are some downsides to being Filipino. I would also say it sucks to be catholic sometimes, it sucks to be a guy sometimes, it sucks to be a part of my family sometimes, but it doesn't mean i'm not proud of it. I'm simply saying that even being Filipino has a downside. Its not an end all be all, and that's the problem with a lot of us. Yeah, we're proud to Filipino, but for the wrong things.

I'm a big fan of Saab's dad, and I'm a big fan of his shirts. Its amazing to be Filipino when you see other Filipino's take so much pride in the country and display it in different ways. I believe Francis M, in his music and in his work, has given so much to our country and it is something to be proud of.As i said, there is enough to hope for and enough to be proud of.

To further illustrate my point, my great grandfathers fought for the country during the Japanese occupation. They founded one of the biggest and most widely known resistance groups in the history of our country, so I know about bein proud to be Filipino. However, at the same time, there were also a lot of Filipino's who collaborated with the Japanese, therefore it sometimes sucks to be Filipino-- because we are so diveded. To see those who should be leading the country take advantage of their own countrymen for personal gain, tell me, should I be proud of that, should I not feel bad that it happens?

Nothing is perfect in the world. The moments a person is most voulnerable are the moments which give birth to character. Because it sometimes sucks to be Filipino, the more I want to fight to change it.

Two things for three of you who read this blog!

First, there's going to be a big skate session on April 22, 2008. That's earth day for all of you didn't know, and a bunch of us are going to get together in UP to hangout and skate to push for skateboarding as an alternative form of transportation. I know its not as feasible in the Philippines as it is in other parts of the world but even a little helps. So if you skate, or want to skate, or just want to make a stand and celbrate with us on Earth Day, come on along. Its an international event. In different cities all over the world people are going to hangout and document each of their earthday sessions!

BBQ!

Aright, BBQ's are fun. I just came from my good friend Pat's house. Started grilling at like 5 and i left at around 12:30 and they were still at it. Missed the pretty girl a lot. :)

Why do i think BBQ's are great? Well, i'm not really the club person anymore. I don't wanna pay to get into an uncomfortably packed place only to pay even more money for overpriced beer/food. Aside from that, the music they play isn't even that great. I'm not really big on dancing anyway, nor am i that into socializing. so yeah, i'd rather chill out by a pool and fire up the grill. Good free food, i get to pick what i listen to, and it isn't a sardine can!

One thing i miss doing is like watching a band play live. There's something about good live music that's just crazy. thank god i'm watching Modest Mouse in May. woot woot.

I haven’t skated in like a week and I’m pretty bummed about it. Not like depressed bummed but more like, I know I should be riding more and I’m not so I feel a little guilty. The sun is finally out and I haven’t taken advantage of it. What can I do, the last fucking week everyone was out of town. Aside from that my favorite spot in the city was on lock, so I wasn’t really itching to skate all that much. There’s this one really nice spot in Timog I’ve been raring to hit, I just always get kicked out by the guards. One day though, I will get my revenge.

the truth about being sober

I’ve been sober for two and a half weeks now. No alcohol at all. I know, for a lot of people that should be easy, but for me it’s monumentally hard. I’ve pretty much spent the last half-decade of my life neck deep in beer. I don’t mean this in an alcoholic way; I’d say I just enjoy a drink more than the average guy. Besides that, it’s also in my circle. All my friends drink and the only person I know who doesn’t is my dad, and that’s because he’s allergic.

It’s very scary to think about not drinking again. I’ve had so many good times drunk with friends. One thing I have in common with most of my very good friends is actually our penchant for being stupid. Alcohol helps us achieve this goal in a much shorter, less embarrassing (while you’re doing it) manner. I remember times in Luis’ house in San Francisco when the two of us would just get drunk and shoot empty bottles in the yard. Or like that time I got my nickname, Kaklus. Fuck, see, those things are fun in themselves, but is actually more fun when you’re drunk. I’m sure there are a thousand things I’m going to miss about drinking (and a thousand and one I’m not), but at the end of the day I know it should be worth it. No more hangovers, no drunk driving, and a lot less really dumb mistakes (Jack and Jaeger do not go together).

The truth about being sober, at least in my case, is that it’s surprisingly enjoyable. Yeah, I do miss a lot of things you can only find at the bottom of the bottle, but these things I don’t need. For a time I was worried about losing my self because drinking had been a big part of me, but later on I realize that it was just dumb to think that. Though I was a drinker, that’s not who I am, its not what I want to be. It was only part of what I did.

We’ve had some awesome time’s there amigo. But I’m looking forward to what I know will even be better times. I’ll see you around.
